READY TO ROCK: Lisa Sonshine, left, and Brock (Broccoli) Burford, will be performing for kids at the Uptown Loft on Feb. 7. Kidstock will feature other children’s entertainers such as J Stix, Oozakazoo and Team T&J.

Lisa Sonshine, half of the kids’ entertainment duo Sonshine and Broccoli, says she is looking forward to rocking out with the North Toronto community.

The 11-year veteran of the industry spearheads this year’s Kidstock: Rock, Pop and Glow event at the Uptown Loft on Feb. 7. It will feature Sonshine and Broccoli, J Stix, Oozakazoo, as well as Team T&J.

“We’re really luck to have amazing connections with people we work with in the industry, that for me it’s pretty amazing,” Sonshine said in a quick phone call Feb. 1. “I’m able to make a few calls and emails, it’s a lot of work, don’t get me wrong, but all the performers were really gung-ho about coming together and doing a show all on one stage.”

The show is aimed at children, ages 2–10, and the money from tickets sold will go to Chai Lifeline Canada, a charity that helps families cope with a child suffering from a serious illness. Sonshine has been a committee member for three years, doing the planning for the event, but this year she took a more front-and-centre role when it came to the entertainment.

“I thought we haven’t done a show, including other artists — kids’ entertainment — so I just thought I’m going to throw it all together,” she said.

Music is the main treat, but a glitter tattoo station, princesses and a silent auction are also available to raise spirits.

Sonshine and Broccoli will also perform tunes from their new album, It’s A Beautiful Day, which has the potential for a Juno nod.

“We hear tomorrow (Feb. 2) if we get a Juno nomination,” said Sonshine, a Bathurst and St. Clair resident. “I’m doing everything I can to visualize that call.”
