When you’re not covering the music world, it’s tougher to keep tabs on it.
Especially if you have two young children. It seems you’re more likely to pick up on the most recent Wiggles or Sharon and Bram track.
But, I still seem to be in tune with a small portion of music, glossing over genres like EDM, country, rock and jazz.
Without further ado, here are my five favourite songs from 2019.

Song: “Lo/Hi” Album: Let’s Rock Artist: The Black Keys Release: March 7, 2019 Why: Simply put, it’s the return of the bluesy, country-twanging hipster rock duo. |

Song: “Kiss The Go-Goat” Album: Seven Inches of Satanic Panic Artist:Ghost Release: Sept. 13, 2019 Why: I never caught on to the whole Ghost trend until recently, and perhaps all it took with a dark ’60s menace to do so. |

Song: “Doin’ Time” Album: Norman Fucking Rockwell! Artist: Lana Del Rey Release: May 17, 2019 Why: I think if I were to pick an artist I listened to the most this decade, it would be a toss up between LDR and Jack White. This tune continues in that ethereal, ’60s Cali vibe. |

Song: “Bad Guy” Album: When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go? Artist: Billie Eilish Release: March 29, 2019 Why: Invisiline aside, this song throbs with malicious delight. It smacks of Fiona Apple — with a market more interested in that kind of melancholia. “Bury a Friend” is also up there. |

Song: “Sometimes (I Don’t Feel Like Trying)” Album: Help Us Stranger Artist: The Raconteurs Release: June 21, 2019 Why: There’s a deep, brooding truth to this plaintive tune. The plight of the modern man. |
