Lamentations of a Stroke Victim
CANADA (PP) - Written while I was receiving my IVG treatment at the
hospital's onocology clinic. I watched the cancer patients receive their
chemo, and their frailty and gaunt faces triggered this, which was written
for New Voices, a poetry anthology at New College:
I sit here,
Muddled.
Wrapping my brain
Like a twister ‘round wires.
I drum here,
Hypnotized.
Tapping my fingers
Like Zulu war drummers.
I stare here,
Mystified.
Gazing at my nature
Like a cow at a cursing farmer.
I think here,
Puzzled.
Straining my brain
To the point of expiration.
I sit here,
Paralyzed.
Calculating my return
To the world of the living.
